Burns is a much greater poet than the image presented of him. He was not the man on the shortbread tin, but someone with an acute sense of history and politics as well.

p.s. I appreciate I post a lot of Scottish stuff on here, I hope this is not annoying anyone - I just hope it is of some use, or at the very least interest.

Smile Shortbread tins tend to portray quaint stereotypical Scottish images like, a lone stag, Edinburgh castle, a portrait of Burns, a lone piper, lucky white heather, etc.
SR was saying the Burns was not twee, but a more gritty individual.

To tell the truth I'd don't't know that much about Robert Burns...

I am following a couple of people on Twitter who are promoting Scotland, including Visit Scotland and Scottish castles, at least you get promoted as a country ay...sort of takes the angst away....

Just read that Burns created AULD LANG SYNE.

There is also a Robert Burns website Here

See here - there's better stuff in print, but this will do.

A lot of Burns stuff is also pretty "bawdy"...

 Random Information.
1997 was the 500th anniversary of the An Gof uprising and a commemorative march (Keskerdh Kernow 500) was held, which retraced the route of the original march from St Keverne, Cornwall via Guildford to London. A statue depicting An Gof and Flamank was unveiled at An Gof's home town of St. Keverne and a commemorative plaque was also unveiled at Blackheath.
