Recognition of Cornwall as a National Minority
Responsible department: Department for Communities and Local Government

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/libertycentral/2009/sep/08/cornwall-national-minority-race This article in the Guardian newspaper outlines the current position of the Government in respect to the minority status of Cornwall. There has been a policy for hundreds of years, of "sweeping under the carpet" the Cornish Issue. This petition calls for signatures to raise the issue of the "Cornish Identity" in Parliament and aims to have Cornwall recognised as a National Minority.

I've been looking at the two petitions. I have signed both, but I suspect my name counts for more on the "national minority" one since that applies at a UK level, whereas with the Assembly one, they probably are most interested in people who live in Cornwall.

Are you on any Welsh forums? I'm not, but I suspect you'll get a lot of sympathetic people there to sign up, and since they're UK citizens (unfortunately), they count as much.

 Random Information.
1997 was the 500th anniversary of the An Gof uprising and a commemorative march (Keskerdh Kernow 500) was held, which retraced the route of the original march from St Keverne, Cornwall via Guildford to London. A statue depicting An Gof and Flamank was unveiled at An Gof's home town of St. Keverne and a commemorative plaque was also unveiled at Blackheath.
