The main difference being that the Brits almost ruled the world, the Americans are still trying to do likewise, and largely succeeding.

p.s. Thanks for the link, I'll watch it when I've time.

You may also wish to be aware, scottishrepublican, how Smit has even been infecting Scotland with his regressive thinking, trying to steer people towards high carbon tourist economy dependency when the immediate climatic and energy resource imperative is to restrain our out of control and globally damaging corporately induced mass mobility appetite and addiction.

Smitspin flies in the face of prudent global environmental stewardship.

Bit of a [words I won't repeat here], but I suppose we already have Clearance tourism. We get plenty over from Canada, the USA, Australia, NZ etc searching for their roots. But thanks for telling me about that, it only highlights how cynical this man is.

The answer isn't to tax cheap flights to death (I don't see anything about the USAF & RAF's "carbon footprint") and punish poor people, but to find environmentally friendly methods of long distance mass transit.

 Random Information.
For many Cornish people and Cornwall, the Duchy, as shown by the Officers of the Duchy of Cornwall in 1855 in its dispute with the Crown over the ownership of the Cornish Foreshore, has quite a different significance, based on the original Acts and Charters of its creation. Cornwall itself in this framework is described, de jure, as a Duchy (as opposed to an ordinary county), and the Duchy estates are distinguished from the Duchy itself, having themselves been annexed and united to "the aforesaid Duchy". The Duke of Cornwall may even be described as Cornwall's head of state.
